Toyota Recalls C-HR and Halts Camry Hybrid Orders

It has been a bit of a rough week for Toyota, having paused order-taking for Camry hybrid, and recalled 14,480 C-HR vehicles made between October 2019 and March 2023.

Toyota’s Sean Hanley says that although Toyota has improved supply, demand continues to outstrip what can be delivered. Buyers are waiting up to 2 years for some models, with 90% of Camry buyers wanting petrol-electric models.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said “I want to assure all Toyota customers that we are doing everything possible to increase supply for Australia and to expedite delivery of vehicles as they arrive. Our global production teams have consistently adopted countermeasures that have improved the supply of components affected by global shortages, such as semiconductors. Throughout this journey, we are particularly humbled that our local customers have maintained their trust in Toyota and remained loyal to our brand.”

To the end of 7,130 Camry we delivered of which 6,490 were hybrids.

Adding to Toyota’s woes, C-HR has been reclled for a high pressure pump issue. Check if your car is affected HERE

The fuel pump’s plunger, and other moving parts, might cause wear between the cylinder and pump body. This follows earlier fuel pump issues with other Toyota and LEXUS vehicles.

Dealers will take ½ an hour to inspect the pump, and 2 hours to replace it if needed. If the last incident is anything to go by, all pumps will be replaced. An appointment is required, so dealers will be busy.

Toyota will contact those customers involved, or concerned owners can call the Toyota Recall Campaign Helpline on 1800 987 366 (Mon-Fri 8.00am-6.00pm AEDT). Have your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) handy.
