2025 Omoda 9 Virtue SHS Review, 395kW Performance and Range Specs

“Drive an Omoda 9,” our Chery guy said. “You’ll love it,” he said. “It’s powerful and posh,” he said. Well okay, not the last bit, but it is! Jaecoo is meant to be the posh product range, but Omoda 9 Virtue SHS is just stunning.

The front is not to my tastes, with its large sidelights and diamond grille. But as a package, the exterior feels properly posh. Take the Omoda badges off and there is more than a touch of Lexus about it. The Chinese brand is doing Lexus better than Toyota is.

It has pop-out door handles, but we can expect the return of sensible handles that do not rely on motors. Ahead of our full review and video, have a gawk at the specs. At a laughable $66,466 drive away, Chery is offering a $3,000 cashback. For $63,466 you get a 395kW, 650Nm PHEV with a 1.5L petrol engine, three electric motors, three speed hybrid automatic, and 70kW DC fast charging 34kWh NCM, Graphite battery.

This Omoda 9 SHS, Super Hybrid System, takes a lead over legacy brands and most other Chinese brands. It is a challenge to almost every other PHEV on the market. The stunning performance of 4.9 seconds to 100km/h for a 2.2 tonne, five seat SUV is an embarrassment for posh brands like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes Benz, not to mention Range Rover and Lexus.

The exterior looks posh, and while it does not have the same feel as a $400,000 Range Rover, you could buy a fleet of Omoda 9s with change left over. The eight year warranty seals the deal for me.

We have had a mere 40km drive so far, but it has been utter bliss. The audio system is killer, and the power delivery is silkily urgent. We have access to a home power point, so here is hoping the 1.5 four cylinder is rarely bothered.

Then there is the cabin. It is a delicious mix of clever packaging. There is leather seating that is heated and cooled, and a gentle curved screen from the driver over to mid-dash. The now ubiquitous column mounted gear selector saves space down below.

It is light and airy, with a skilled feel about the design that has considered the driver. We had a hallelujah moment when we discovered physical buttons for essential functions, but the infotainment will take a few hours of experimentation. I can forgive it that because on the power per dollar stakes, it is a lay down misère. Look forward to our video and full review next week.
