Subaru has finally slapped a hybrid system into the Forester, and it’s about time. The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid promises up to 581 miles of range, 40% better fuel economy, and—crucially—no loss of all-wheel-drive prowess. That’s right, you get better efficiency without sacrificing that legendary Subaru Symmetrical AWD capability.

Under the bonnet, there’s a 2.5-litre BOXER engine working in harmony with electric motors and Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT. The system cranks out 194 horsepower and delivers an EPA-estimated 35 mpg combined—a solid 10 mpg improvement in city driving over its non-hybrid sibling. Pricing kicks off at $34,995USD when it lands in showrooms in spring 2025.

Same Subaru Toughness, Less Fuel Stops
Subaru loyalists can breathe easy—this isn’t some neutered crossover pretending to be an SUV. You still get 8.7 inches of ground clearance, X-MODE® Dual Mode, Hill Descent Control, and Active Torque Vectoring. So whether you’re crawling through city traffic or muddy bush tracks, the Forester Hybrid will keep doing what it has always done.

Tech & Safety? Sorted.
Standard kit includes Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist, which now has a wider field of view and reacts faster to hazards. There’s also Emergency Stop Assist—if you zone out while using Adaptive Cruise Control, the car will pull over, flash the hazards, unlock the doors, and even call emergency services. Big brother is watching, but at least he’s helpful.

Inside, there’s a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, an 11.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a StarTex® animal-free interior option. It even gets an exclusive new colour: Daybreak Blue Pearl.

Subaru’s hybrid game may have been late to the party, but if this Forester delivers on its promises, it could be worth the wait. And yes, it still has all the rugged charm that made Subaru the unofficial car of every LGBTQ+ camping trip ever.

Australian pricing and specifications will come, eventually.
