2025 Toyota HiLux Australia: Full Specs, Tech & Pricing Revealed

Buckle up, Australia— the ute segment is in for a bumpy ride. 2025 Toyota HiLux lands in showrooms from 9 December, and it’s gone bigger, brasher, and proportionally Aussie. Relying heavily on past reputation, Toyota’s new(ish)-generation HiLux isn’t just a ute; it’s a statement. Built for tradies, weekend warriors, bush campers, and anyone who likes a vehicle that will actually survive the outback, this range has five grades, endless body configurations, and pricing from $33,990 to $71,990. From the humble WorkMate to the top-of-the-line Rugged X and Rogue, Toyota has left no stone unturned. Some might argue the pencils haven’t been sharpened quite far enough with the new opposition arrivals doing the round blitzing legacy brands on price. MGU9, BYD Shark 6 and others, give buyers great ride, more space, and in some case a full PHEV driveline for 20 grand less than the Hilux range-toppers.

What does Toyota offer?

The Core: Powertrain & Driving Options

Every HiLux is powered by Toyota’s aging 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder. Depending on the grade, it’s mated to either a proper six-speed manual or ancient automatic transmission. SR 4×4 automatics also benefit from Toyota’s 48V V-Active system, adding an 8.5kW/65Nm electric motor generator and DC/DC converter to improve take-off feel. Every model combines day-to-day reliability with decent towing and load-hauling chops.

WorkMate — Practicality First

The WorkMate kicks off the range at $33,990 for the 4×2 single cab-chassis manual, aimed squarely at tradies and anyone who doesn’t need bells and whistles. Exterior highlights include:

  • 17-inch steel wheels
  • LED manual-leveling headlamps
  • Body-coloured bumpers and grille
  • Electric mirrors with integrated turn signals
  • Sharkfin antenna
  • Choice of four exterior paint colours

Inside, the WorkMate is all business: manually adjustable fabric seats, urethane steering wheel with tilt/telescopic adjustment, manual aircon, power windows, all-weather plakky floor mats, and a manual parking brake. Tech is surprisingly solid: 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto, DAB+ radio, satellite navigation, and voice commands. Double cab WorkMates get a tailgate damper, four tie-down hooks, extra 12V rear port, and four-speaker audio system.
