4.1s 0-100 in Bentley's New Flying Spur Hybrid (PHEV)

Bentley Flying Spur PHEV Hybrid: Most “Environmentally Bentley” Ever.

Gay buyers tell us they wanted information on what luxury cars are best if they want to be seen to be environmentally conscious. That may seem a little shallow, but a PHEV is a step on the way to full electricifcation.

Drivetrain:

Bentley Flying Spur uses a hybrid powertrain with 395kw and 750Nm from the petrol engine plus 72kw from the electric motor. The big Bentley will cover around 700km per tank, backing its GT reputation even in a part-electric drivetrain.

The V8 Bentley does the 0-100 in 4.3 seconds, which is fast in any language. The V6 Hybrid does the same 0-100 sprint in 4.1 seconds, only a whisker behind her V8 sister.

The electric motor is between the engine and transmission, and is run from a 14/1kwh battery. The battery can be charged in 2.5 hours, with electronics that can power the motor, as well as the existing 12v infrastructure.

Flying Spur uses “plug in hybrid” allows for drive modes including EV-only. After EV mode, there is Hybrid mode, where the Bentley manages the hybrid system for you, and Hold, where battery power kept in reserve for later use.

Once the charge has run out, the PHEV system will operate like a normal hybrid.

Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid comes with cables to accommodate local charging, and if the buyer chooses, a “Bentley” wall box for the garage at home. The latter comes at no cost.

Displays

The driver can see what power is in reserve. The embedded SIM allows data to be viewed from a smartphone app. Previously, they able to find their car via the app. They could also lock it, and view other drive-related data.

New features include:

MY CAR STATISTICS – which provides an overview of vehicle data. You can view the time and date of recent trips as well as last trip distance, average speed, travel time and average fuel/electric consumption.

MY BATTERY CHARGE – allows you to remotely initiate vehicle charging as long as your vehicle is plugged in. You can select the time you plan to leave and the charging system will calculate a rate of charging to achieve the highest level of charge in line with your departure.

MY CABIN COMFORT – lets you remotely heat or cool the cabin to an optimum temperature of 22°C ahead of your journey.

New Flying Spur Hybrid are made at Crewe, and will be on sale from the end of 2021.
