BMW M3 Touring 24H Nürburgring: The April Fools’ Joke That Became a Race Car

In April 2025, BMW M Motorsport posted images of a BMW M3 Touring race car on social media. It was an April Fools’ joke. The response was so overwhelming that they built it for real.

What is the BMW M3 Touring 24H?

The BMW M3 Touring 24H is a racing version of BMW’s estate car, built for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in May 2026. It shares the same technical base as the BMW M4 GT3 EVO but uses the M3 Touring body, making it 200mm longer and 32mm higher than its coupe sibling.

BMW M Motorsport turned a social media stunt into an actual race car in just eight months. The original April Fools’ post reached more than one million users and generated over 1.6 million views, with engagement many times higher than their usual content.

When and Where Will It Race?

The BMW M3 Touring 24H makes its competition debut at the second round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS) next weekend, before heading to the main event at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring on May 16-17, 2026.

The car will compete in the SPX class rather than fighting for overall victory in the SP9 category. That means it won’t be battling the three BMW M4 GT3 EVOs, but it will still be a crowd favourite for the fans who demanded it into existence.

Who’s Driving?

Four BMW M works drivers will share the wheel:

  • Jens Klingmann (GER)
  • Ugo de Wilde (BEL)
  • Connor De Phillippi (USA)
  • Neil Verhagen (USA)

The car is fielded by Schubert Motorsport and runs on Yokohama tyres, marking a significant partnership for the Japanese tyre manufacturer.

The Fan Connection

BMW has gone all-in on the fan angle. The livery for the preparatory races features selected comments from the original April Fools’ post, essentially letting the fans who demanded this car see their words racing around the Nordschleife.

A special livery will debut for the 24-hour race itself.

What the Bosses Say

Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport: “A project like the BMW M3 Touring 24H has never existed at BMW M Motorsport before. I promise all fans a great show and look forward to an event of superlatives.”

Jens Klingmann: “This is truly a unique project, and I am absolutely thrilled to be part of it.”
