Six months with our gold Polestar 4 in Queensland revealed a stunning, queer-friendly EV held back by messy software, patchy customer care and slow driver-assist tech. Gorgeous to look at, lovely to drive, but still a work in progress — a beautiful first draft that Polestar needs to finish.

Polestar 4, despite its foibles, is perfection.
Unlike some of the “supercars” that love to break bones and rearrange organs at the mere sight of a speed bump, Polestar 4 is well mannered and kind to humans.
Like Polestar 3, Polestar 4 comes in two models, either a rear wheel drive ($78,500) or dual motor All Wheel Drive (88,350). For $7200 you can add the Performance pack to the AWD Polestar 4
The Louise is exquisitely detailed and superbly executed. It is the onshore equivalent of an evening on a superyacht.
Polestar 3 makes a mockery of the clumsy coupé-style SUVs from Mercedes, BMW and Audi. The latter manage to half-bake their puddings by trying to make an SUV into a sports car, and failing miserably. Polestar seems to have gone about it the other way round.
There were quite a few surprises this year, as Forester fell off the list for the first time. Audi scored well, as did VW, with Mazda getting a wagon mention. Who knew?
