Electric Renault 5 Prototype At the Munich Motor Show


Petrolheads of the past loved the Renault 5 which is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary. To celebrate 50-year-old Renault, the Renault 5 Prototype will spawn a full-on road car in 2024.

 

A brand’s reputation hangs on the latest model, surely, but it is the great cars of the past that people remember into the future. We’ve all seen the “homage” models that finished up being little more than a grim pastiches in plastic. There is a fine line between a tribute, and a tragedy.

From the looks of the Renault 5 Prototype, it is a cracker, with a difference. It will carry Renault into the world of cool electric cars. Electric cars are popular throughout Europe, so a modern take on a popular icon will remember the heyday without the fossil fuel hangover.

Renault 5 Prototype is a compact, electric, city car full of old-world charm that timeless favourites into the future. Its fun and playful character has an eye-catching yellow body to match the modern drivetrain.

Gilles Vidal and his Design team took used the look of the original Renault 5, with the modern spin that matches the expectations of the 21st century. This modern approach has familiar forms, but has trim and materials inspired by the worlds of electronics, furniture, and sport.

The Munich car show will be an ideal opportunity to discover – or rediscover – the Renault 5 Prototype, but also to delight in a journey through time delving into the heritage behind the ‘diamond’ with a showcase of four models that have marked the lifespan of the Renault 5. The exhibit will include an orange TL, a black Le Car Van, a blue electric model, and a champagne-coloured TX.
