FCAI Appoints New Directors Amid Industry Transformation

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has appointed two new directors to its board following its 2025 Annual General Meeting on 21 May. Robert Thorp, Director at Honda Australia, and Glen Sealey, Managing Director of Renault Australia, join as fresh voices guiding the peak automotive body. Additionally, Andrew Humberstone, Vice President & Managing Director of Nissan Oceania, has been appointed Treasurer.

They join a board chaired by Vinesh Bhindi (Mazda Australia), with deputy chairs Matthew Callachor (Toyota Australia) and Shaun Westcott (Mitsubishi Motors Australia), alongside leaders from Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, Yamaha, and Inchcape.

It is the FCAI which advocates on behalf of members, often lobbying the government in the interests of car makers and importers. It also explains the FCAI’s position on electric vehicles which seem to be prospering in spite of the constant negative press coming from the industry body.

It is no surprise then that FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber highlighted the board’s role amid major shifts in the industry, including the transition to low-emission vehicles, the rise of intelligent transport systems, and increasing global protectionist trade measures.

The biggest members sell hybrids and are eager to have these ICE vehicles seen as low emissions with the addition of electric technology. However, low emissions does not equal zero emissions and it may well take grass root action to force the auto industry and its representative “union” to move faster toward a zero emissions mobility.

The new appointments are seen as crucial in navigating Australia’s automotive future, one way or another.
