GM Energy Unveils PowerBank: Giving EV Owners the Power to Control Home Energy Use and More

GM Energy is continuing to expand its reach with the launch of the GM Energy PowerBank, a stationary energy storage system designed to give electric vehicle (EV) owners greater control over their energy use. More than just a backup for outages, the PowerBank allows users to store energy from the grid or solar power, helping to offset high electricity costs during peak demand and powering homes when needed.

Available in 10.6 kWh and 17.7 kWh versions, the PowerBank can be combined to create a 35.4 kWh system—enough to power the average American home for up to 20 hours. Whether you’re charging your EV, using stored solar energy, or simply keeping the lights on during a blackout, the PowerBank adds flexibility to your energy management for around $12,000usd.

Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy, highlighted the system’s adaptability: “One of the core differentiators of GM Energy’s portfolio is its modularity.” Customers can tailor their energy setup to their needs, from integrating renewable energy to reducing reliance on the grid during peak times.

This new addition is part of GM Energy’s broader push to build a holistic energy ecosystem. The GM Energy Home System bundle, which includes the PowerBank, a PowerShift charger, and the Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) Enablement kit, allows homeowners to tap into their EV’s stored energy. For those already using V2H, the PowerBank is available as a simple add-on.

For solar integration, GM Energy has teamed up with installer Qmerit, offering assessments and installation services to make the transition to renewable energy seamless. As with all of GM Energy’s offerings, the PowerBank and solar systems can be monitored and managed through GM’s mobile apps, giving users full control over their energy use from their phone.

Now available across all 50 states, GM Energy’s products and services offer new ways to manage home energy, with flexible options for EV owners and non-EV owners alike. Customers looking for more information can visit GM Energy Live for a detailed, immersive experience showcasing the full range of energy solutions.

In an era where energy costs are rising and sustainability is front of mind, GM Energy is giving consumers the tools they need to take charge of their energy use—whether that’s through renewable energy, EV integration, or simply staying powered when the grid fails.
