Honda is slowly releasing details of the of the all-new Civic five-door hatchback. These pictures follow on the back of the teasers leaked over recent months. The 11th-generation of the long running hatch/seda was revealed online here on the official Honda YouTube channel at: https://youtu.be/vMkhRoFRJ14
We’ve reviewed many Civics over the years, and have always loved them. With models of the hatch and sedan, including the hot Type-R hatch. It has always been a bunch of fun. The Type-R is a track favourite. In fact in this track video, I forgot to speak!
Civic has been a favourite with gay buyers too. Who hasn’t had a Civic somewhere in their lives, even if just one owned by a special friend.

Its profile follows the current European obsession with “sportbacks”. It is vastly simplified when compared with the over-designed outgoing model. It gives the exterior a sleeker look that is less muscular, more svelte. a long rear door is foiled slightly by the sloping roof, and we predict it will be hard to get in the rear seats as it is all Sportback-style models.
The cabin is less fussy than the previous model, Hodan claims a driver focus, but if the picture is anything to go by, it looks to be pretty standard stuff. Controls have had a makeover, and the console looks particularly neat and tidy, eschewing the fussy, difficult to use current model. The USB ports are exposed instead of being at the back of a cubby hole, which we like. The large central decorative panel across the dash, not so much.
Honda has adopted a conventional floating tablet, which raises the infotainment screen off the centre stack. Some like it, some don’t. I like it, a lot.
The launch will see a tweaked version of the current 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo engine. Honda is trying the hybrid thing again with an e:HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) coming some time in in 2022.
This move is a surprise as the world continues to move towards SUVs, but Civic is an important model for Honda with 50 years of heritage under its belt.
Honda promises driving enthusiasts an engaging drive, with ride and handling fine-tuned in Europe. I guess that means no local tuning. We’ve seen other brands ditch Euro-tuning so it will be interesting to see what this brings us.
Civic launched in 1972, and is sold in 170 countries, with more than 27 million units sold worldwide.
The all-new Civic hatch is scheduled to go on sale in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2021.
