We’ve reviewed Golf MK 8 many times, and is one of our favourites. VW’s new IQ.DRIVE is a suite of safety and driver aids, again, something we like a lot.
The wagon version is slightly bigger than the hatch and comes as Golf Wagon and Golf Wagon Life.
The Golf R Wagon should be along early next year.
IQ.DRIVE is a driver support system that does your including parking, and supports during lane changing and accident prevention. It is meant to relieve you of the grind of a long trip, but can be a little intrusive.

IQ.Drive drive includes:
- Travel Assist
- Front Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Monitoring

- Rear Traffic Alert

Power comes from a 1.4-litre direct injection turbo petrol four cylinder engine with 110kW and 250Nm. The front wheels are driven via an 8-speed Aisin torque converter automatic though allowing for a tiny 5.9 L/100k. Also standard is stop-start functionality, electro mechanical parking brake and Hill Start Assist (autos).
The opposition often uses basic back axle, but VW’s MQB platform has independent rear suspension, and MacPherson struts up front. Golf Life rides on Ventura 17-inch alloy wheels.
Colours include: standard Pure White, four metallics (Reflex Silver, Dolphin Grey, Atlantic Blue, Pomelo Yellow Premium Metallic), and Deep Black Pearlescent.
