The honeymoon is over for Jaecoo’s first Australian model. Omoda Jaecoo has issued an urgent safety recall for 1,028 units of the 2025 Jaecoo J7 after a manufacturing defect was discovered that could shut the car down at speed.
The issue lies with the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) wiring harness. In petrol-powered 1.6-litre turbo models, the harness can rub against the engine mounting bracket. Over time, this “chafing” damages the wires, leading to a sudden loss of power or a total engine shutdown without warning. If this happens while you’re at 100km/h on the M1, the safety implications are obvious.
The official recall notice (REC-006534 / campaign RCB2601) warns that a sudden loss of motive power increases the risk of an accident, potentially causing injury or death. This is a significant blow for a brand currently on a rapid expansion tear, having just opened its 50th Australian dealership in Macarthur. While Jaecoo has sold nearly 3,000 units since its mid-2025 launch, this specific campaign targets only the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive petrol variants.
