The Jaguar Type 01 interior is out. A brass-finished spine runs the full length of the cabin, carving it into four individual spaces. After everything thrown at this rebrand, it’s a proper piece of design.
The car itself doesn’t get its reveal until New York on 6 October, so there’s no price, no range, no Australian timing (if any) from Jaguar. The Jaguar Type 01 interior is all we get, and it’s plenty. After a rebrand pilloried from every direction, a design chief who left JLR with the wreckage still warm, we didn’t expect something so gorgeous.
The Brass Spine Detail
The spine runs the full length of the cabin and brings a touch of beautiful old world glamour. The eye travels front to back giving the impression of a 1930s Agatha Christie Nile steamer mystery. It cleaves the space into four compartments, with brass-inspired luxury luggage finishes that repeat along the tops of the doors, full-length pieces, each carrying the leaper. Jaguar calls it a concept car vision brought to production, and for once, it’s true.

What the Jaguar Type 01 Interior Hides
Infotainment is built into the architecture rather than propped on top of it, with digital interfaces intelligently applied for control on demand. Translation, the screens stay out of sir’s face until sir wants them. There are concealed compartments, hidden-until-needed technologies, and unexpected moments of colour. The ClearSight rear view display sits centrally at the base of the windscreen, level with the door mirrors. The driver’s eyes stay on one plane like 1960s sports cars and luxobarges.
The palette evokes the travertine stone and artisan textile textures of a top notch club lounge. It’s subtly tonal, like Jaguars of yesteryear. Strikethrough elements merge the bonnet into the slim dashboard so outside and inside feel like Le Corbusier perfection. The cabin cradles the driver, with a low seating position Jaguar describes as a confidence-inspiring GT position. “In contrast to the horizontal interior design norm, we emphasise its dramatic longitudinal nature through the central spine,” said Thomas Holden, chief interior designer. The Jaguar Type 01 interior is the rare case where the object looks more than the sum of its parts.
Pebble Beach First, New York After
The prototype takes a new wrap to Monterey Car Week and finishes at the Pebble Beach Concours on 16 August, having already driven the streets of Monaco. It’s a luxury four-door GT, designed and built in the UK, and the first production Jaguar on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture. The name breaks into Type, zero, and one, for the legendary predecessors, zero tailpipe emissions, and a new generation. Is it wrong of me to have wanted “XJ007” instead?
