Korea sales
Kia recorded sales of 51,128 units in Korea, a 1.5 percent increase from April 2020. Sales of the Carnival minivan and K5 sedan supported the growth of Kia in its home market.
Sales outside of Korea
Sales outside of Korea jumped 120.9 percent from a year earlier to 198,606 units, steered by the Sportage and Seltos SUVs, and the Rio subcompact sedan. This sharp increase was caused by recovering global automotive demand that slowed last year amid the COVID-19 outbreak, as well as temporary closures of global plants which hurt vehicle supply during April 2020.
Despite the tough business environment, sales recovered in global markets such as the U.S. spearheaded by Telluride and Seltos SUV models, which contributed to this year’s strong global results. Kia recorded its second best-ever monthly sales in the U.S., with five Kia models setting sales records this April.
Kia will also continue to focus on implementing its mid- to long-term business strategy ‘Plan S’, as well as creating sales momentum and profitability through new models, such as the Kia EV6 electric vehicle and brand new K8 sedan.
