Kia’s Hybrid Sportage is Here. Details Here.

Kia Sportage Hybrid gets the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol-electric hybrid already used in Sorento Hybrid. The 132kW/265Nm four-cylinder petrol engine combines with a 44kW/264Nm electric motor using power stored in a 1.49kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. The combined power output of 169kW/ 350Nm drives the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

We tested the non-hybrid Sportages HERE:

Kia claims the frugal Sportage has a Fuel Consumption figure of 4.9L/100km (combined hwy/city).

These front wheel drive Sportages come in SX and GT-Line FWD trim levels, which have a great level of standard equipment according to Kia Australia’s COO. Both models have space saver spares, and 18” wheels, as well as comfortable cabins replete with the latest gadgets and aids.

With on-road costs, the range topper is going to cost around $60,000

“The Sportage range was already an excellent medium SUV package in a very popular and competitive segment, and the addition of a Hybrid variant strengthens our offering considerably,” said Kia Australia’s Chief Executive Officer, Damien Meredith.

“The Sportage range is an integral part of Kia’s sales initiatives and we anticipate sales of the HEV to be around 300 per month, contributing 20% of total Sportage sales volume. The Sportage HEV is another solid step in Kia’s progress of increasing electrified options to the Australian market.”
