Lamborghini Miura Turns 60: Museum Exhibition Celebrates the First Supercar

The Automobili Lamborghini Museum opens “Born Incomparable”, a landmark exhibition celebrating 60 years of the Miura. It runs from March 18, 2026 to January 2027.

Why the Miura Matters

The Lamborghini Miura wasn’t just a car. It was the car that invented the supercar template: mid-mounted engine, stunning design, performance that embarrassed everything else on the road. Every mid-engined exotic that came after owes something to the Miura.

What’s on Display?

The exhibition features some extraordinary hardware:

The Original Chassis (1965) The bare tubular steel chassis first presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1965. Painted matte black with the V12 mounted transversely behind the cockpit, this 120kg structure rewrote the rules for sports car architecture.

Miura P400 S The evolved version with 370 CV from the 3.9-litre V12, wider track, updated suspension, and more refined interiors.

Miura Roadster A one-off show car from 1968 with no roof, side windows, or closing systems. This is essentially a rolling sculpture that still wears its original Lamè Sky Blue paint with white leather interior and red carpet.

Miura SVJ One of the rarest versions ever produced. The SVJ designation derives from the experimental Jota prototype developed by test driver Bob Wallace. After the original Jota was destroyed, customers demanded road cars with similar characteristics. This is the result.

The Artwork

The exhibition includes “Disintegrating X – Miura” by artist Fabian Oefner, reproduced at 1:1 scale. The piece shows a Miura exploding outward, with every component suspended in space.

The Celebration Calendar

Lamborghini is running a broader program throughout 2026:

  • Lamborghini Polo Storico Tour: May 6-10, starting in Piemonte and concluding at Lamborghini Arena at Imola
  • Lamborghini Arena Festival: May 9-10 at Imola circuit

What They’re Saying

Federico Foschini, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer: “For Lamborghini, the Miura represented a moment of extraordinary revolution and a decisive push toward the company’s future. With this exhibition we want to offer visitors and enthusiasts the opportunity to see some particularly special examples up close.”
