Urgent Lexus Recall: NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid DC-DC Converter fire issue – owners should stop using the charging cable immediately, or risk fire.

Lexus has issued an urgent safety recall on all 154 NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) due to fire risks.

The issue revolves around the plug-in hybrid system. The DC-DC converter reduces the power voltage from the Hybrid Vehicle battery to charge the on-board 12V battery. The current rectifying module on the circuit board in the converter may have been damaged during production and could short circuit.

The short circuit lets 12V current from the 12V battery to continue back to the module which in turn would heat up. This heat could be sufficient overheat other component resulting in a fire.

The free DC-DC converter replacement takes around 75 minutes, but the time the vehicles spends in the service department may be longer. Lexus has advised owners should not to use the AC Plug-In Charger until the DC-DC converter has been replaced. Until then, the car is perfectly safe to drive.

Lexus owners can call the Lexus Customer Assistance Centre on 1800 023 009 (Monday to Friday 8.00am to 6.00pm AEDT) or visit: www.lexus.com.au/owners/update-details, making sure they have the 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on hand.
