New Toyota Corolla-More power, Safety, Features – Details HERE

Toyota revealed details of the upgraded Corolla hatch and Corolla sedan. Changes include Toyota Connected Services, a new infotainment system and more powerful hybrid powertrain.

The range is priced at $28,130 to $39,120.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the latest upgrades would be welcomed by customers.

“With greater safety and convenience features and improved performance for hybrid models, the new Corolla range will give our customers greater peace of mind,” Mr Hanley said.

“Corolla has long been one of Australia’s most popular passenger cars and these upgrades are set to make it even more appealing,” he said.

Hybrid models get the 103kW fifth-generation hybrid system which is 13kW more powerful than the outgoing model. It teams an 1.8-litre petrol engine with a newly developed high-output motor generator, power control unit and downsized hybrid transaxle. The new system has double the number of magnets per pole inside the rotor, and a new lithium-ion battery which is 14% lighter with more power and output.

The Front wheel drive Hybrids come with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Petrol Corolla hatch and sedan models have a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 126kW/202Nm for the hatch and 126kW/203Nm for the sedan. The front wheels are driven through CVT with 10-speed sequential shift mode. The CVT is able to simulate traditional torque converter transmissions by using pre-set ratios.

Other features include Toyota Connected Services that allow limited remote functionality and emergency assistance in crashes. Ifthe airbags are deployed or if a collision is detected, an emergency call centre is contacted connecting the driver to an operator.

The driver can manually call using the roof-mounted SOS button, but the connected system also allows the vehicle to be tracked if stolen.

The myToyota Connect smartphone app is available for use with some of the models. It allows the driver to remotely check remaining fuel or driving range, whether the doors are locked, or whether the windows are up or down. It can remotely lock the car, start the car, and sound the horn or flash hazard lights.

It helps the driver locate the parked car when parked, and will send notifications to the owner if the car somehow malfunctions.

Toyota Safety Sense upgrades include the pre-collision safety system, adding motorcycle detection, intersection collision avoidance support for crossing vehicles and left/right turn, emergency steering assist, and acceleration suppression at low speeds. Existing features were also enhanced. Cameras and radar sensors have also been improved in order to detect a wider range of obstacles or vehicles.

Blind spot monitor is standard on the hatch range, and lane trace assist now includes an emergency driving stop system feature that safely brings the car to a stop if the driver is no longer providing inputs.

Active cruise control system now has four distance settings, can detect other vehicles earlier, and the addition of deceleration assist when changing lanes.

Infotainment:

The 8.0-inch touchscreen has better resolution and has a new screen layout which includes shortcut buttons on the driver’s side. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as is DAB+ and a USB-C port below the screen.

Corolla hatch models: Ascent Sport has a 7.0-inch screen in the instrument cluster, with ZR models having instruments replaced by a 12.3-inch digital screen.

Hybrid Ascent Sport sedans get satellite navigation, front sun visors with lamps and mirrors, and hatch versions add rear seat reminder.

16-inch wheels are standard on Ascent Sport and SX, with redesigned front grille all round. There is an optional Convenience Pack, which adds rear cross traffic alert, front/rear parking sensors for the hatch, and rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitor for sedan.

SX adds rain sensing wipers and electrochromatic rearview mirrors, with the hatch also getting remote climate control pre-conditioning, and parking sensors front and rear.

Colours now include: Sunstone Orange and Lunar Blue which replace Peacock Black and Eclectic Blue. Also available are Glacier White, Frosted White, Silver Pearl, Graphite, Eclipse Black and Jasper Red on Hatch models.

ZR Hatch buyers can choose Frosted White, Graphite, Jasper Red, Silver Pearl. and Lunar Blue can also be optioned with a two-tone black roof.

On Corolla sedans, Dark Grey and Eclipse Black replace Ink and Lunar Blue, bringing the colour choices to 8 along, including Glacier White, Frosted White, Silver Pearl, Celestite Grey, Atomic Rush and Saturn Blue.
