We love Matrix Headlights, and talk about them all the time. When the new Amarok premiers, it will have IQLight Matrix LED headlights as an option to standard LED lighting.
Gay readers tell us they’ve bought an Amarok for its sexy looks, and the fact that it is not a Hilux. Interesting comments, but they say looks are as important as the way their pick-ups work. They love pick-ups, and want space, technology, and comfort.
A short video Below clip shows them off.
VW is up-marketing the new Amarok as a “premium vehicle,” so all models will have LED headlights up front. As an option on posh versions of the pick-up, optional ‘IQ.Light’ can be ordered. These LED matrix headlights have a high-impact light graphic, and the bright makes night driving less stressful. Matrix Headlights come on in low light situations dipping full beam whenever there is oncoming traffic, street lighting or traffic lights, and the static cornering lights, which light corners up better in the direction of travel. Unlike normal high beam situations, Matrix Lights form light in ways so that most of the road remains lit brightly. Only the section of light with oncoming cars is dipped. As the vehicle moves through the light field, the dipped beam follows it.

Albert Kirzinger, Head of the Design Team at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles: “With its high-tech lights, the new Amarok will already be recognisable as a genuine VW a long way off and at the same time will display a unique light signature.”
‘IQ.Light, is only one of many ‘highlights’ in the new Amarok-up from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. More highlights will be presented in the coming weeks.
We’ve driven Amarok many times, and its on-road driving is among our favourites.
Amarok History
Since launch, more than 830,000 Amaroks have been sold. Markets in Europe, South America, South Africa and Oceania have been quick to take up the handsome pick-up truck. Its claimed benefits such as supreme drive systems, high load capacities, and systematic functionality. The brand from Hannover is taking this, and upgrading it for the next generation. The new Amarok will launch as of the end of 2022 in the first few countries with double cab and four doors (DoubleCab), and in some individual markets with a two- door single cab (SingleCab).
The new Amarok will be sister to Ford’s Ranger. Volkswagen said there would be no new Amarok had the partnership with Ford not come about. The all new Ford Ranger is due any time so it will be interesting to see what the likeness brings to performance.
