2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed Highlights


Goodwood Festival of Speed made a welcome return to the Cheese and Wine circuit last weekend.

UK viewers can see it in all its glory on ITV4 on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 July at 21:00. The two programmes will includes highlights from motorsport’s ultimate garden party.

This year, “The Maestros – Motorsport’s Great All-Rounders” featured Roger Penske and Mario Andretti. A bevy new cars made their debuts in the First Glance and Supercar categories, with the Lotus Emira made a spectacular splash with an interactive Central Feature.

Current McLaren F1 Team drivers Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris, plus Olympian Sir Chris Hoy, and Virgin Radio Breakfast Show Host Chris Evans appeared.  Actor Tom Cruise, also put a quick foot in the door.

James Deane won the inaugural Driftkhana competition, while the 1974 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale owned by Marc Newson was judged the finest and best-presented car on the Cartier Style et Luxe Lawn.

James Sunderland MP from the Armed Forces Rally Team won the Hannu Mikkola Trophy in a Land Rover Wolf XD, and Rob Bell wom the Shootout in a McLaren 720S GT3X in a time of 45.01 seconds.

Equally thrilling was the Red Arrows and The Blades who did the Brits proud in an aerobatic display of stunning agility and precision. A favorite of ours is the EV-only ‘Electric Avenue – The Road To 2030’ sponsored by Sky Zero. Here you’ll see the latest in electric cars and other cool vehicles,  proving to be one of the most popular exhibits over the weekend.

This Friday, the 16 July at 21:00, ‘Goodwood Future Lab’ will bring you glimpses of innovation  and vision in technology and science from around the world. Highlights included thefuturistic PAL-V flying car, the latest Mars rover from Airbus, 3D printed vitamins from Nourished and robotics from RACE. Punters got their mitts on the EMOTIV mind-controlled Scalextric racing and remotely control Einride’s autonomous trucks operating in Sweden. Now that is something we could all get right in to!
