Jaguar cancelled their laudable XJ limo, leaving the XF to carry torch for the historic British brand. Of the 3 remaining passenger cars, XF is the largest, and some would say, most impressive.
The regal front end is subtly detailed with a sexy set of what look like conventional quad-headlights. In fact, the lighting system is a complex system that uses super-bright LEDs paired to sensors and fancy computer programming. In fully automatic mode, lights magically illuminate as needed, and decide when full blast is required. On the open road, the system will light the way ahead, for well over half a kilometre. Should the Jag spot a light up ahead, it dims that quadrant only. As the car moves through the field, on-comers remain undazzled.
The XF look is gorgeous, but a little too conservative without the black pack to give it extra growl.
There is a quaint ¼ window behind the back door, in a throwback to limos gone-by. But it is just a passing nod, as rear legroom is fairly limited with a tall driver up front.
All 4 doors have smart keyless access, with the option of a rubber smart-watch-like device for those who like to surf, or other such moist activities. It deactivates the key which can then be left safely in the car. Hoorah!
In fact, Jaguar XF is a big beast of a thing, weighing in at 1819kgs. You can’t feel that weight once underway. Jaguar XF feels frisky, and playful, and light as a feather. Steering is delightfully direct and brakes have the Goldilocks amount of fell. Like her porridge dinner, it is just right.
Jaguar is terribly keen on an extensive range of options to give owners a choice of customisations, for a price. With that pricey exercise, comes both function and comfort. There are limits to my ability to excuse omissions such as HUD and wireless phone charger. The charger also acts as a ranger booster so is well worth the tick. Those omissions are quite beyond the pale.

The Cabin:
From the new 11.4” tablet, to the LCD driver instruments, data presentation is front and centre. The veneer of class and comfort laid over the top, gives the interior a faint whiff of a gent’s club. Mid-tan leather is an unusual choice to blend with the engineered wood trim, but somehow, it works.
Depending on the depth of your purse, you can add more convenience to make your life a little better. As it stands, the atmosphere is restful and elegant.
The standard features list is extensive. Read about it HERE: 21MY JAGUAR XF R-DYNAMIC HSE P300 AWD Fuji White
On the Road:
The 2.0L turbo 4 under bonnet sounds a trifle insipid when you stab the starter, but once underway, the pleasing buzz has the air of a 60’s sports car. The 8-speed automatic is shifted into gear with a proper stalk. They’ve ditched the dial and the cabin is better off for it.
Drive modes, active suspension, and AWD are all standard fare. You might be surprised to hear that the drives modes give the Jaguar XF severe multiple personality disorder. She goes from timid and shy hiding behind a fan, to a she-devil with a harpy-esque howl, after dialling up dynamic mode.
The body has a hint of body roll when the going gets tough, but the seats hug tightly. The bolsters and squabs adjust to give the front pews a sport-seat-feel worthy of a V8 supercar. No, scratch that. Jaguar XF is supremely comfortable, V8 supercars are horrid.
For those who think 4-cylinder engines are sans fun, pay attention: Jaguar XF has around the same power as a Subaru WRX, at 221kw/400Nm. Sure, Jaguar XF weighs a bit more, but 0-100 in 6.1 seconds is nippy in anyone’s language.
Jaguar drivers really aren’t the head-banging-yobbo type who are going to toss the car into a corner like a spitball at a wall. They’re the calm and considered type who fancy the odd trip out of town. For that, there is the ride of a velvet cushion, cocooned in a posh zone of Zen. The Zen look is aided by acoustic sound deadening, and a superb Active Noise Cancelling system for a true all-round experience.
Is Jaguar XF a true Luxury Car?
Jaguar XF is scrumptious inside and out.
It is in the same class as a Mercedes E Class, BMW 5 Series and Audi A5, yet it seems to escape the notice of buyers. Admittedly this segment is hard hit by the current SUV obsession, which is driving a stake through the heart of passenger car sales..
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the sexy Jaguar XF is on par with the delicious Audi A5, leaving the other two languishing in their wake. The BMW in particular lacks the finesse of the XF.
Jaguar XF comes to Australia in HSE trim only. That brings many attributes not found in the opposition (as standard across their ranges). But it is more than that, it is the way Jaguar XF makes you feel.
Conclusion:
You cannot quantify the level of regal splendour you feel when looking out from within. The air of exclusivity makes XF stand out, for the right reason. 100 grand is a fistful of shekels, but Jaguar XF is worth every penny.
