Subaru has been tempting us with tasty images for months, and as of 11am 7/9/2021 orders are open, but only for 500 buyers. Don’t get excited, the buyers who registered interest will get notified first.
Here’s what we know.
500 of the all-new Subaru BRZ will land in Australia and be in showrooms in December. Deliveries start in January, but if the previous BRZ releases are anything to go by, the 500 units will be snapped up by some of the fastest of 2900 buyers who have already registered interest.
The rest will have to cool their heels, possibly for a very long time.
World shortages in semiconductors, and the covid pandemic, mean there is no confirmation of ongoing deliveries past this first batch.
Subaru will email those canny buyers who’ve already registered, letting them know of the pending possible purchases. On a first come first serve basis, there will be some left clutching their pearls and gnashing their teeth.
The successful purchasers will get an all-new BRZ in rear wheel drive, with a 2.4L boxer engine. Power is 170kw and 249kw with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.

ABOVE: 2022 Australian Preview- All New Subaru 2022 BRZ
Our press preview was a “virtual” one, featuring Andrew Dado in his garage. Such are the delays that our preview model was an unregistered LHD model. Drat it all! Our review, track drive, and road test, will have to wait.

- Digital radio (DAB+)
- Satellite navigation
- Vehicle settings
Colours are:
- Crystal White Pearl
- Ice Silver Metallic

- WR Blue Pearl (exclusive to BRZ)
All-new BRZ comes in 2 trim levels,
| BRZ MY22 MANUFACTURER’S LIST PRICE* | |
| BRZ Coupe Manual | $38,990 |
| BRZ Coupe Auto | $42,790 |
| BRZ Coupe S Manual | $40,190 |
| BRZ Coupe S Auto | $43,990 |
If at first, All-New BRZ looks the same as the old model, (check out our previous BRZ reviews HERE, and HERE), a closer look reveals a gently sculptured bonnet, a bootlid with big integrated spoiler, and stunning self-levelling LED headlights.
BRZ coupe has cloth seats, and BRZ Coupe S gets Ultrasuede / leather seats, with the front ones being heated. The driver (finally) gets a digital dashboard which can be configured with drive mode changes.
BRZ is built alongside Toyota’s GR 86, but Subaru was cagey when asked about BRZ numbers VS GR 86 numbers. Nonetheless, as in the outgoing model, we’ll expect the subtle differences between brands to emerge once we see them side by side.
A stiffer chassis and increased power promise a more exciting driving experience. The increased level of safety and equipment will bring BRZ up to 2022 standards. The only fly in the ointment is the manual model. Although they provide much more fun in the corner department, they miss out of the full EyeSight enhancements. It also means the manual models will not get a 5-star safety rating.
Subaru is making all sorts of promises and claims, which we’ll be happy to confirm or dispel the second we can snaffle a drive.
