Hyundai has revealed its all new KONA small SUV. The new car comes in four variants, which include an all-electric (EV), hybrid electric (HEV), internal combustion engine (ICE) and sporty N Line, each has its own personality and inclusions.

“Upscaled with KONA’s unique character, the all-new KONA confidently expresses its bold and dynamic presence,” said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center. “KONA has evolved in every respect to embrace an even wider range of diversity, to become a true lifestyle supporter.”

Upscaled, More Space

All-new KONA is larger but stays true to the feeling of the first outgoing Kona model. There is more ‘living space’ and is 150mm longer, at 4,355 mm in length. It is 25 mm wider, and the wheelbase has grown by 60 mm.

Many brands start with a platform designed for ICE drivetrains, and alter it to allow electrictrification, Hyundai KONA was designed as an EV then altered to allow ICE, HEV drivetrains.

Like the current model, all-new KONA is clearly identifiable. The front end is clean, with a line of light along the top, which is pixelated on the EV. KONA Parametric Pixels continues the design element from the rest of Hyundai’s EV range.

The rear end has sculpted wheel arch cladding that incorporates taillamps, to give an impression of SUV-ness even though we know is going to see nothing more than a gravel drive.

Although the profile is slightly less daring, the front and rear denote a diversion in design language. The EV has a pixel graphic on the grille and rear bumper, and pixel-inspired 19-inch alloys. The ICE and HEV the same bumper and skid plate details, and black wheel arches. N Line has optional black side mirrors and roof, a wing spoiler, and even more aggressive front and rear styling, as well as its own 19-inch alloy wheel patterns, a twin muffler and a silver side skirt.

The Cabin

The 12.3-inch dual displays are seen in other Hyundai group models. There is mood lighting and a column mounted gear shifter.

The second-row has a Curve-less Bench Seat which gives an impression of space and is typical current design, particularly in EVs.

More details of all-new Hyundai KONA will be unveiled in the coming months.
