BMW Offers Classic BMW Curation for Your Knackered Old Beemer

There comes a time when your car, no matter the brand, becomes not worth the effort or the money to have serviced at the OEM’s (Original Equipment Manufacturer) very expensive facility.

When I was a spring chicken, my bestie bought a BMW 2002. All I saw was a knackered old nag, down at the heel and ready for the glue factory. He saw something different. He saw an elegant yet faded rose still to become an appreciating classic. Back then, “appreciating classic” was little more than PR speak for a buggered banger unlikely to limp more than a bock from home without needing a tow.

As cars age, the model difference matters less and less, and whether or not it has a black stripe or blue is an irrelevance. His was not the much-wanted Ti, just an old stripy-seated slapper that needed everything doing, from top to bottom.

BMW Australia launched its BMW Classic Partner programme., starting with Worthington BMW in New South Wales.

BMW Group Classic offers owners of historic BMWs a chance to bring their babies up to snuff using properly sourced parts. To ensure BMW standards are met, experts from the company’s Munich HQ provide the Australian technicians with everything they need in training and specialised workshop equipment. The projects could be as much or as little as budgets allow, on any historic BMW vehicle that needs a little lovin’.

Wolfgang Buechel, CEO of BMW Group Australia, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “BMW’s heritage, dates back 108 years, is extremely important to our brand.   The introduction of BMW Classic service has been successfully offered at our BMW Group Classic department in Munich for many years.

“With a vibrant community of classic BMW enthusiasts in Australia, including 15 BMW Clubs nationwide that have over 5,000 members, this service will be a one-stop shop for customers who want to restore or maintain their classic BMWs in top condition, ensuring that they continue to enjoy the brand’s Sheer Driving Pleasure.”

The launch event sees a bunch of Beemers at Worthington’s classic showroom stand. Eight classic vehicles are on display, designed to whip creative juices into a creamy cocktail of spicy enthusiasm. Owners who, until now, have let their lovies languish up the back yard, can hand it to a dealer who will lavish it with the love it always deserved, but rarely got.

It is painful to see a once-stunning beauty bound for the scrap yard. Having a company-sanctioned local renovation option skips so many hurdles owners face when trying to freshen a faded bloom. BMW will help source parts, paints, decals, and all the knobs and screws, so that the finished car is showroom fresh.

Worthington BMW joins 151 dealers specialised services for their classic BMWs.  BMW Australia has committed to fanning this local ember into a comforting blaze. Any of 48 dealers across the nation could be a potential partner in rendering the dream of a loving owner into a reality.
