Don’t get too excited, these Alexa-guided tours are in ID.4 markets that have been specially targeted.

First you’re guide through a walk-around the ID.4, with Alexa telling you about some of the features and facts. The Alexa guided tour, via an Echo Auto device on the dashboard, then takes the participant through a guided drive programme.

Alexa is able to share information about the ID.4’s features, including its battery, charging, blind spot monitor, connecting to infotainment, cost, regular maintenance, and much more.

In a sign of things to come, the process was created in collaboration with Amazon Ads and Amazon Web Services, and can answer questions about the ID.4’s features while driving.

“In our push to bring EVs and electromobility to all, we need to find new and exciting ways to talk to our customers,” said Andrew Savvas, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, Volkswagen Group of America. “This collaboration with Amazon does just that. Future Volkswagen owners can experience all our ID.4 has to offer with the aid of a voice service they’ve already come to know.”

ID.4 is Volkswagen’s first stab at an all-electric global SUV. It is built on the group’s MEB electric platform so has all the advantages of a ground-up design without the hangovers of an ICE drivetrain.

If you’re in a region where these test drives can be booked, www.amazon.com/id4testdrive is the place to head to get a slot. The entire experience takes around 45minutes, with 30 minutes of that being the actual drive programme.
