Hyundai Palisade is a big American-style SUV that has been refreshed with raft of technology to bring it in line with other Hyundai models such as the excellent IONIQ 5.
GayCarBoys took Palisade, loaded to the gunnels with boys, booze, and boxes, to our weekend getaway. We pointed out that 7 seats would be unlikely to be used regularly, but that it was fun trying to fit into them. With 4-up, it was like riding in a ballroom on wheels.
It proved to be a worthy chariot, full of gear, we’d all be proud to be seen in. That’s not something we can universally agree on as a rule, but this time we did.
Outside:
Palisade already had an aggressive approach to looks, and although you’re hard pressed to see the differences, the front end in particular, has had a light laying on of hands. A new parametric shield grille has a set of stacked headlights, and Highlander gets some satin finishes and a new set of 20” wheels.
The body has been made stronger with reinforcing on side sills, the floor, and the B Pillar

Inside:
Anyone who has been in a new Hyundai of late will have noticed a new language, one of quality, technology and infotainment.
There has been a quantum leap in quality, materials, and finish, but it is the inclusions as standard that the Hyundai Group (including Kia) is now known for.
The dash has 2 large 12.3” screens, one for the driver, and another touch screen for infotainment, as seen in IONIQ 5. CarPlay/Android Auto is standard, with no plans for a BMW-style subscription arrangement. What is in the car, is in it for life.
Subscriptions will be restricted to features with the Hyundai Bluelink on-board app.
There is a digital centre mirror, with the rear-view mirror acting as a mini tv screen with a clear view rearward. It can also be used as a regular mirror if the driver prefers.
There is a centre airbag for those in front seats. Other changes include a revised 8-speed automatic, and new selective damping control for a smoother ride.
The cabin has extra sound proofing too, to make cruising a Zen experience.

Safety & Technology
Hyundai SmartSense includes, among other things, blind spot monitor, automated emergency braking, lane keep assistance, high beam assist and smart cruise control. Other systems also got revisions and upgrades too.
Of particular note is the projection of LED lights onto the ground along the reversing path, to warn those outside of Palisade’s intended direction.
Other technology upgrades include the HUD, now a higher resolution of 480p, and is 40% wider. It projects a virtual 10” LCD screen onto the windscreen in front of the driver with enhanced data, fighter-jet-style.
Palisade also gains new remote parking, done using the key fob, as we saw in the Genesis reviews. There are a mix of USB-A and USB-C sockets, the former for infotainment connection, and the latter for charging. While on the subject of charging, the wireless Qi charger has been upgraded to 15w, so is almost as fast as home charging.

Hyundai Bluelink is the headline act, and gives the big SUV connection to the outside world. The first 5 years are included, with ongoing costs to be advised. It may well remain included if the owners service with a Hyundai dealer.
Other features include remote control from the phone app to find your car, and monitor its health. There is more sophisticated voice control, connected navigation allowing rerouting because of traffic incidents, and more. Cleverly, the Last Mile Navigation lets users continue their trip after parking, by using augmented Reality or Google Maps smartphone guidance.
Palisade was launched in Australia well into its lifecycle, and this refresh plugs gaps, particularly in technology, between it, and the newly launched Hyundai models.
