Hyundai Tops JD Power for the 4th Year on the Trot

J.D. Power ranked automotive brands by customer satisfactions, and the Hyundai Group frequently tops ratings. This time it is the overall innovation leader for the mass market segment in the 2023 U.S. Tech Experience Index (TXI) StudySM.

Hyundai has taken the same award for 4 years straight, with further nods for the 2023 Palisade in the emerging automation section. It won an award for reverse automatic emergency braking technology, known at Hyundai as Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA).

As if that was not enough, the 2023 Sonata was awarded in the infotainment and connectivity section for its phone-based Digital Key technology.

For years, the relatively new Hyundai Group, was seen as inferior, or cheap and cheerful, and certainly “not as good as the Japanese” brands.

“At the core of our product development philosophy lies the principle of delivering innovative solutions tailored to fulfill our customers’ exact needs,” says Ricky Lao, director, product planning, Hyundai Motor North America. “We enhance customer peace of mind by offering cutting-edge advanced driver assistance systems and user-friendly convenience features, showcasing our dedication to prioritising customer safety and overall satisfaction.”

What is the U.S. TXI?

The U.S. TXI gives a score that is able to simplify what is otherwise a very complex notion. The way in which technology interacts with society in very specific ways.

The criteria include both the penetration levels of advanced technologies (Market Depth) and consumers assessment of the quality of execution of these advanced technologies across a brand (Excellence in Execution). The criteria carry equal weight, in other words, the buyer wants new technology, but that’s not the end of it. What good is it if it doesn’t work as easily or as well as expected.

The TXI Study uses a 1,000-point scale, and analyses 40 technologies. It is able to gauge how effectively each automotive brand gets their technologies to market.

The four categories include:

  • Convenience
  • emerging automation
  • energy and sustainability
  • infotainment and connectivity
