Ladies and gents, the Dashcam market is positively rimming over with techy goodness and this week Lamtto sends us their RC11 6.25” dashcam/CarPlay/Android Auto unit, costing $169.99 USD. Gaycarboys readers get a beefy 15% discount using the promo code WELCOME. You’re welcome.
Who should have a dashcam?
The isn’t a car on the road that should be without dashcam. It helps sort out responsibility for crashes, acts as a guard against vexatious claims, and speaks for you if you are unable. It keeps an eye on teens who borrow cars, but above all captures the moment in time where someone’s life possibly changes forever. Best of all, it stops all the trash talk during road rages. The mere mention of a camera and the biggest bogan turns turtle.
Why all cars don’t have them fitted as an OEM part is astounding.
Your dashcam must be reliable, working 100% of the time. It can’t afford a hissy bit and its impact detecting G-force sensors are essential. As with all dashcams, the video quality has to be clear and perfectly recorded or it is as useless as chocolate teapot.
It is handy if the emergency recordings are saved in a folder not to be overwritten. The remainder of the videos loop in tasty minute-sized bites, eventually overwriting themselves as space is needed. While small files might be annoying to trawl through, they are invaluable when, if one of more files are corrupt, the remainder can be read. One long video file would be corrupt if even a small segment was damaged.
That would do sir no good at all when sir’s day in court comes. In fact, brandishing well-recorded incidents is often sufficient to fend off all but the most brazen of claims.

Lamtto RC11
The box is sturdy but non-descript. “RC11” is only mentioned on the ubiquitous barcode label, so presumably the same unit also works under other brand names as so many of these products do.
For $169.99 USD (around $256AUD) we get an entry to mid-level dashcam that in this case comes with a handy rear camera. There is a cheaper single cam model as well a unit with a rear-facing front camera for those who want to keep an eye out the inside the cabin as well as out. All shenanigans are recorded for prosterity.
The RC11 dashcam has a durable double-sided tape-fixed bracket as well as a suction cup option, and the 12V lead is at least 3m long and contains an AUX USB port on the 12v plug itself. The RC11 dashcam has some very clever thinking in its thoughtful design.
The RC11 dashcam unit has a 3.5mm AUX port to connect to older cars that have 3.5mm AUX option. This allows the unit to be connect to the vehicle inbuilt audio system whose speakers will be clearer in most case than those in the RC11 dashcam. It will also connect via FM transmission but I was unable to get that working on my test. The is a USB-C port for power and a a second 3.5mm port for the rear camera.
Rather handily, there is a crow bar tool to get the cables under door seals etc, and a selection of tabs and holders to keep cables tidy.
RC11 dashcam has a 6.25” touch screen and adjustable front lense. Response time was mostly fast although every now and then the system would hesitate as if waiting for an invitation. It then takes a moment to find its bearings.
The resolution is excellent and menus can be navigated easily after practice. It isn’t quite as intuitive as I’d like, but for the price can’t be beaten.
Parking Assistance
As with the previous Lamtto RC09 unit the RC11 can be set to use 24hr surveillance with an installation of the optional parking pack. It includes a small battery which prevents the main vehicle battery from being flattened by overnight use. These types of parking adaptors are usually good for around 24 hours of protection.
In addition, a wire can be connected to the reversing light that then uses the rear camera as a reversing camera complete with parking lines. In this case, external mounting near the rear number plate would be best, otherwise mounts are supplied for rear window situations.
If you’re shunted from behind the footage is as good as an admission of their guilt.
Split Window Viewing
The cameras and be viewed on the front screen in playback or live while driving, and a split screen will afford a live view of the front camera as well as the functions of the main screen including CarPlay. It employs a rather tasteful showdown line between the 2 screens rather than a sharp and jarring line.
CarPlay/Android Auto phone mirroring works the same as OEM inbuilt systems, and connects as easily as OEM systems do. Initially connecting by Bluetooth, if “Use CarPlay” is selected during setup, WiFi is used instead. It can be tardy and reconnecting after an engine restart.
Ease of use
RC11 dashcam can be used out of the box. If you only use the front cam then you are up and running in under 3 minutes. Attaching the rear camera might take a bit of a schlepp, but is well worth the effort if you’re touched up from behind.
If you plan to stream music using CarPlay, it is best to tune to the car’s speakers with FM or connct via an AUX cable as mentioned. Otherwise, the RC11 dashcam can handle phone/messaging etc by touch or voice and its built-in speakers are perfectly fine. Voices can be easily understood at all speeds, and they report my voice was clear and concise using the RC11 mic. In fact, one caller commented that it was better than some of the OEM systems he had used.
Maps can be used for navigation with voice guidance that is perfectly intelligible also using the inbuilt speakers.
The unit can be left plugged in at all times as long as your 12V supply is not permanently live. After restarting the car, the RC11 dashcam can take several minutes to reinsitialise. Left to its own devices, connection eventually brings the mirroring up where you left off.
We were particularly impressed by the stable WiFi connection.
We have used wireless CarPlay dongles, CarPlay dashcams, and OEM systems that were prone to dropouts during use. While it doesn’t affect the recording, it can be infuriating when on a phone call or during navigation. Imagine being in the middle of a call and navigating tight streets in an unfamiliar area in thundering rain. It happened to me at a most testing and inconvenient moment, nearly causing an accident. No driver is immune to distractions when technology demands attention instead of providing assistance.
Video Quality
Changing from light to dark when using tunnels is no problem. The exposure system adapts quickly and video quality doesn’t overly suffer. Details are still useable, but whether day or night, the front 4K recording is noticeably superior to the rear 1080p. This is the case with almost all dual camera models, so as long as detail is clear, rear video is handy.
Conclusion:
Lamtto’s range is fairly extensive, and for and entry to mid-level brand is excellent value for money.
Favourite features are the reversing camera and split screen. While there are units on the market that include “ADAS” features like lane departure and collision warning, they’re so annoying that you whip them off rather than endure them.
The inclusion of a fast (unbranded) SD card saves buyers up to $100, so with our 15% discount is included, the RC11 dashcam is the best priced fully featured dashcam/phone mirroring unit we’ve used.
