The Lexus Electrified Sport concept is a new part of the Lexus all-electric, high-performance sports car vision.
While mother brand, Toyota, has been slow to take up the challenge, Lexus says that a luxury brand should be well advanced on a future where battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are king. The concept is coming to Australia for the first time to appear at the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The design brings back memories of the delicious LFA supercar, of which 10 came to Australia, and an 11th car becoming part of the Lexus collection. There is also the faintest whiff of Toyota Supra/BMW Z4, showing us how clearly the language translates from existing models into concepts of the future.
Lexus Electrified Sport was revealed in 2021, showing viewers that an electric sports performance car can still be fun to drive, and good to look at. Lexus claims vehicle dynamics such as acceleration, braking, steering, and handling, are better with electrification. Engineers can tune response to be even more direct, while keeping their “Lexus Driving Signature.”
Gay readers commented that, “the Lexus SUVs were preferable to Euro badges,” and went on to cite the expensive parts and unreliable performance of their own BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, and Audi cars. Some have had a particularly bad run, and there interested in a battery-powered car as their next ride.
Lexus claims a first in hybrid powertrains across many of its models. These drivelines are shared with Toyota, something Toyota remains determined to see a return on. The CEO and President has been on record as saying that fully electric vehicles may not make up 100% of vehicle sales, but governments around the world are pushing towards a future of green transport powered by renewable energy. EVs make an important part of that solution. Interestingly, the joint Toyota/Subaru electric SUV project has already yielded fruit on the form of the LEXUS RZ, Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ3/bZ4X. Only the Lexus RZ is currently available

Lexus Electrified Sport will star at the LANDMARK by Lexus pavilion at this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival from November 4 to 11, with Lexus having naming rights sponsor. Lexus Chief Executive John Pappas said the Australian debut of the Lexus Electrified Sport is an opportunity for car enthusiasts to gain a glimpse of the stunning super-coupe, which is testament to the exciting BEV future ahead for Lexus.
“The future of mobility is electrified, and the Lexus Electrified Sport is an absolutely breathtaking representation of what a next-generation flagship Lexus supercar will be like, and the type of exciting BEVs Lexus will offer.” Mr Pappas said.
“Lexus Electrified Sport makes a statement about where Lexus is heading, and you can see why we are so excited about our future.”
The Lexus Electrified Sport concept features:
- cab-backward coupe silhouette
- dramatic sloping bonnet and rear end,
Lexus’ well-known Spindle body starts with a large front aero splitter, headlights cleaved into the bonnet line, and air channelled through the front aero ducts and out via channels on the bonnet.
Bigi black alloy wheels show blue brake callipers, with side profile sculpting for aero efficiency along the doors, sills and behind the cabin.
Lexus Electrified Sport will sit alongside the new LBX electrified SUV on its Australian debut with sales starting early in 2024.
As revealed in our earlier LBX news story HERE, the little Yaris Cross-sized SUV uses a 1.3-litre hybrid as seen in the Yaris Cross.
Lexus is on track for all new vehicles sold in Australia by 2030 to feature an intelligent electrified powertrain: either hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or fully-electric (BEV). Lexus might need to shake a leg, with the competitors speeding up the full-ev roll-out.
