Lexus RZ Electric car to Feature Innovative Heating Solutions

Lexus designers used the omotenashi principle by using two panels in the RZ’s platform to create infrared radiation to warm driver and front-seat passenger.

Regular convection heating like that used in most cars, warms the air. The LEXUS system heats only solid objects in the panels’ line of sight.

This sysgtem warms occupants more quickly and while using eight per cent less energy. This saving on the heating ventilation and air conditioning system allows the RZ’s 470km range.

This radiant effect is rather like having a warm blanket around legs on a cold day. This marvel of technology uses two hidden radiant heaters at knee-level, behind the lower instrument and steering-column panels.

Driver or front-seat passenger can avoid overheating with physical contact to the panel, which automatically reduces temperature to around 43 degrees Celsius to prevent discomfort.

The radiant heating system is part of Lexus’ Climate Concierge, which can be set to full automatic. It then changes the cabin, seat, and steering-wheel heating and cooling systems to make sure the selected temperature is achieved quickly and effectively. We’ve also seen this in other LEXUS cars with the system switching functions without the passengers being aware. Direct heating and cooling in the seats and steering wheel are noticed without being intrusive.

These will all be standard equipment, and RZ features and pricing will be available closer to the Australian launch date. Keep tuned for deatils
