When we drove the LEXUS UX300e we loved the quality feel. The 12.3” tablet replaced the old touch-pad user interface and it finally had Apple CarPlay.
The big ticket item is the battery going from 54.4kWh to 72.8kWh which allows for 200 more km on the range-o-metre. After resisting the fully-electric push for so long, LEXUS and Toyota have seen the light, finally.
There 2 model LEXUS UX300e range includes the Luxury at $79,990 and the Sport Luxury for $$88,490. The Luxury comes in under the limit under the $84,916 Luxury Car Tax threshold.
The Apple CarPlay is now wireless, but Android users still need to tether to a USB socket. Everyone gets DAB+ satellite navigation, wireless phone charging, and a 13-speaker Mark Levinson hi-fi audio system.
Owners get a three-year complimentary subscription to Lexus Connected Services, a free home charger, 3 years of free Chargefox, a 3 year LEXUS on demand subscription, and 3 years of Valet parking.
Interestingly, continued us of DC fast charging may shorten the life of your battery, so the Chargefox subscription may be a double-edged sword.
Range is around 560km (NEDC), and the power output is 150kw/300Nm.

Lexus Chief Executive John Pappas said the UX 300e appeals to younger, affluent customers wanting the flexible urban lifestyle offered by a compact SUV, together with dynamic performance and zero tailpipe emissions.
“The UX 300e is a great urban vehicle for younger buyers wanting a car that is fun to drive and also refined and sophisticated,” said Mr Pappas.
“It plays a major role as the entry battery electric vehicle in the Lexus range as we continue our move towards a diverse lineup of luxury vehicles that is either fully or partially electrified.
“The important thing for Lexus is to offer our customers a choice of low and zero tailpipe emission vehicles that suit their mobility needs.”
The LEXUS UX300e is up against some stiff opposition regardless of price. UX300e doesn’t come with a AWD option.
