On the way to full electrification, Mercedes-AMG is using F1 hybrid technology to extract astounding power figures from amazingly tiny engines in the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S SUV and Coupé.

“The Mercedes-AMG GLC SUV is an absolute success with our customers. Our two versions, with different characters for the sporty-urban lifestyle, are superior all-rounders and precisely tailored to individual customer wishes,” says Michael Schiebe, the CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

“With the E PERFORMANCE drive in the GLC 63 S, we are also launching the first performance hybrid SUV. The all-wheel-drive system, the active rear-axle steering, and the quick-shifting transmission enhance the emotionally appealing hallmark AMG driving experience.”

The genius comes via a 6.1 kWh battery that has 80 kW of continuous power, but can manage 150 kW, for up to 10 seconds. The battery can be charged using regeneration of from an AC charger using the SUVs onboard 3.7kw system. 14km of pure EV range is possible but the system, using a motor in the rear axle, aids the economy and grip performance via the 4-Matic system. It allows power to be transferred to the front wheels when needed. The 4-Matic operates at 50/50 under normal operation and up to 100% to the rear when needed.
