Mercedes-Benz Studio Sydney Puts the Electric GLC in the CBD

Mercedes-Benz parked its new electric GLC and the reworked S-Class in a showroom on Martin Place, a few doors from where much of Sydney’s money gets made.

The Mercedes-Benz Studio Sydney at 39 Martin Place now has the all-new GLC 400 4MATIC electric and the new S 450 4MATIC on display. It’s open to the public, and the cars on show change over time.

Martin Place is the CBD’s banking strip, with the Reserve Bank up the road. Mercedes-Benz Studio Sydney puts the cars where the customers work, rather than waiting for them to find a spare Saturday and drive out to a suburban dealer.

Mercedes-Benz Studio Sydney and the No-Haggle Price

The Studio also suits the way Mercedes sells cars. It’s used an agency model since the 1st of January 2022. Mercedes owns the stock and sets a single national price, and dealers act as paid agents who handle delivery.

With the price fixed nationally, a GLC costs the same in Martin Place as it does in Parramatta. There’s no deal to be struck over a desk, so a city showroom can get on with showing the cars.

An Electric GLC and a Reworked S-Class

The GLC is Mercedes’ most popular SUV nameplate, and this one is fully electric, with a motor on each axle. It joins the recently refreshed GLE and GLS in the SUV line-up.

The Studio car is the first public showing in Australia of the new Lavender Silver metallic paint. Its Luxury Package fills the dash with the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen and puts an illuminated star pattern in the panoramic roof. The Agility and Comfort Package adds AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering.

The S 450 4MATIC is the biggest update ever made within a single S-Class generation. More than half the car is new or reworked, about 2,700 parts in all. The grille is about 20% bigger with a lit surround. The Studio car is in MANUFAKTUR Opalite White Bright. See our Mercedes-Maybach S-Class update story for the S 580.

The S 450’s Comfort PLUS Package brings an augmented reality head-up display and a 3D driver display. The front seat belts are heated, as are the seats and armrests front and rear. Prices and further specification details to follow.
