Omoda 9, LDV Terron 9, Audi Q5 earn ANCAP five-star safety

Three New Safety Darlings: ANCAP Crowns Omoda 9, LDV Terron 9, and Audi Q5

Well, well, well—look who’s wearing five stars and not just for show. ANCAP’s latest crash test results have handed top-tier safety ratings to three very different rides: the plug-in hybrid Omoda 9, the diesel-powered LDV Terron 9 ute, and the third-gen Audi Q5. That’s a family SUV, a tradie’s workhorse, and a Euro thoroughbred all strutting into the spotlight with their safety credentials polished to perfection.

🔌 Omoda 9: Hybrid Hero with Brains and Bumpers Chery’s Omoda 9 scored 90% for Adult Occupant Protection and 87% for Child Occupant Protection—solid numbers for a plug-in SUV that’s clearly more than just a green badge. ANCAP noted “Good to Adequate” protection in nearly all crash tests, with only the driver’s chest in the oblique pole test rated “Marginal.” So yes, it’s safe—but maybe don’t reenact Fast & Furious near any trees.

Its crash avoidance tech was no slouch either, with 81% for Vulnerable Road User Protection and 82% for Safety Assist. AEB and lane support systems performed like they’d been rehearsing with Cirque du Soleil—graceful, precise, and ready to dodge.

🛻 LDV Terron 9: Ute Muscle Meets Family Values The LDV Terron 9 ute didn’t just show up—it showed off. With 91% for Adult Occupant Protection and 89% for Child Occupant Protection, it’s the kind of dual cab that says, “I’ll haul your gear and protect your crew.” Maximum points in frontal, side, and occupant-to-occupant tests prove it’s more than just brawn.

ANCAP also gave it a nod for crash avoidance, especially in reverse AEB scenarios. Translation: fewer driveway disasters and more peace of mind when the kids are behind the car.

🚙 Audi Q5: Euro Chic with Crash-Test Cred The third-gen Audi Q5 glided through ANCAP’s gauntlet with perfect scores in forward, junction, and T-bone AEB tests. It even aced motorcyclist scenarios, which is more than most drivers can say.

Occupant protection was solid, though it did cop a 7-point penalty for vehicle-to-vehicle compatibility in the frontal offset test. Apparently, it’s a bit rough on the other guy. Still, ANCAP praised its “strong occupant protection and effective crash avoidance”.

Whether you’re chasing plug-in efficiency, diesel grunt, or German refinement, these three prove that five-star safety isn’t just for the showroom elite (or snobby PR flunkies). Full details at www.ancap.com.au.
