The SAAB demise has been longer than War and Peace. Rumours have flowed thick and fast regarding the possible sale. SAAB fans have let down time and time again as each negotiation fell flat on its face. but this time it seems it might be the real thing. A consortium including investors from Japan and Honkers investors recently formed a company called National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB for the purposes of buying SAAB. NEVS is owned 51% by Hong Kong’s National Modern Energy Holdings and 40% by Sun Investment Group from Japan.
An undisclosed price includes SAAB’s main manufacturing, powertrain and tool divisions. The Museum was saved from being broken up earlier in the year but some completed vehicles have already been sent to Mr Crusher to be converted from smart 9-3 sedans, convertibles and wagons into coffee table sized cubes. Perhaps they were a trifle over enthusiastic.
For those us of who have owned much loved SAABs, the news is welcome, but as we all know by now, the car maker based in Trollhatten won’t be safe until it’s been back doing what it does best, and doing it for 40 years.
SAAB, the little car maker who just won’t give up.
