We recently took a quickie out-of-town break in a Skoda Kamiq Signature. Its modest proportions hide a world of wonder that slowly revealed itself like a rose on a warm spring day.
While we were at it, we found a couple of hacks to eliminate annoying omissions such as DAB, 12v outlets, and USB sockets. It turns out the world is emerging from its conservative chrysalis at an ever-increasing pace.

Hack 1:
Some car companies, as thoughtful as they are, have gaps in their equipment you can fix in a jif. Our Kamiq Signature had all the business built-in, but no DAB+ digital radio. “Damn and blast,” I uttered. I’m a Buddha Hits lover, and after a short apoplexy, connected to the wireless Apple CarPlay. I left the phone in the Qi charger so it didn’t run down, and streamed Buddha via LISTNR. Job done.
Hack 2:
Well, this hack is more of a “just in case”.
My Navman Sensor XL dashcam comes with an extra long lead with 12V/micro USB connections. I usually plug in to the outlet right at the front of the console, but in this case the 12volt is under the armrest. It drapes the cord across the cabin like the joint was wired by MacGyver. I spied the USB-C sockets instead. “Just the ticket, “or so I thought. Nay, neither carried sufficient charge for my trusty travel companion. I used the 12V outlet instead, but was reminded of recent motoring events in jalopies with the 12V only in the boot.
For that, I have a USB to Micro USB lead, with a USB to USB-C adaptor to be ready for all occasions.
That sorted our entertainment, and unlike DAB+, didn’t have conniptions the second you’re near city limits
Hack 3:
In another “just in case”-
We arrived at our mountain hideaway a few hours later and were greeted by apocalyptic rain. The Kamiq has a mini folding brolly in the front driver’s door, like a Rolls Royce. OK, the Roller has a full-sized Teflon brolly but it is the thought that counts. I stayed dry-ish and that’s all that counts.
Stay tuned for the full review tomorrow!
