The news blew up last month when it was revealed that the most tolled city in the world, Sydney, was charging motorists twice for the same trip,

The Labor opposition spokesman estimated tolls cost drivers $100billion, a staggering amount. ABOVE: Sydney tolls roads and tag placement

One driver reported $57,000 in over charges. It started with Jason Clement being charged $1,000 per toll. The trucking operator received an apology from the government department after $40,000 had been charged then removed from his bank account. It should have been refunded immediately, but following the apology, the problem continued.

Mr Clement deactivated the E-Tag account after the $40,00 was discovered, however a further $17,000 in charges was directed debited from his account.

Mr Clement said that as of the time of reporting, the $57,000 had not been returned to him.

We’ve long complained about the tolling madness that exploded during the last decade of conservative government mismanagement. Previously un-tolled roads were tolled, then sold off to Transurban, the country’s largest toll operator. Wesconnex was one of the largest projects, and joins other new and existing tollways now under a monopoly over most of Sydney’s toll network.

Adding to the pain and suffering. Motorists learnt of toll price rises as the debacle continues, with some process increasing by 12c.

Although refunds have allegedly been process, none have reported and there is no word as to whether or not the errors have reoccurred.
