Doc Sally – 2023 BYD Atto 3

Sally did her first road trip in the BYD, planning each leg so as to charge sensibly, trouble free.

“And, I’m happy with my car. I wanted an environmentally sound vehicle that also saved me money. I did my homework; hybrids are hard to get, long wait times and will be superceded anyway, and a plug in hybrid would be the minimum requirement for me. Thus, I talked myself in buying an #EV even though I’m not known as an ‘early adopter’ of new tech.”

Sally is now a lady of leisure and is pleased to be doing it free of fossil fuels.

Jeff – 2023 Lexus UX

“My Lexus the best car I’ve ever owned. It is my first new car and it makes me feel like a king.” Jeff loves watersports (we didn’t ask for clarification), snow skiing and doggy pursuits of all kinds.

“I like my Apple CarPlay wireless, but it flattens my iPhone. I was ready for an electric car and all the faffing it brings with it. I hybrid is a good in-betweener.”

Jeff also loves a roadtrips and claims to have a boy in “every port,” a legacy of being an ex QANTAS trolly dolly. Judging from the picture Jeff sent in, we can see why.

Julie – 2023 Skoda Kamiq

“It has been a great car, but the sensors don’t work after a wash. They don’t work well in the rain either. Skoda has had a crack at fixing it but I may as well have been asking for the moon to be moved a little to the left.”

Julie had a few teething problems but she loves the cars features, and “I look forward to the gremlins being banished. It wouldn’t kill Skoda to ring back occasionally.”

She went on to say she tends not to go out in wet weather if she can avoid it.

Nico – 2023 Kia EV6

“I’m loving the twin motor EV6. It gets a few looks and is pretty fast. I plug in at home, and don’t do a lot of road trips so it is perfect.”

Nico writes the odd story for Gay car Boys, and is always keen to put in his two-cent’s worth.

“I look at European cars, but quite frankly darling they just don’t stack up, especially the premium brands. BMW and Mercedes have dodgy looks, and Audi is a bit bland. Fixing any of them means mortgaging and arm or two. The Kia has a load of punch, and a long warranty.”

Alan – Toyota GR Corolla

One of the very few press cars ever to have broken down on me was the GR Corolla. It comes in for a special mention not because it broke, but because it withstood the abuse dealt out to it by previous drivers before finally needing a rest. The poor little car was beaten to within an inch of death by people who treat press cars like they stole them.

The GR Corolla gets snaps for holding together as long as it did. It has been fixed and we reviewed it HERE.

Greg – Kodiaq

Greg had to trade his Skoda Kodiaq after he was unable to get parts. A minor dingle had his car off the road for months. He has since gone on to buy another brand, an EV this time.
