VW Caddy people mover, BMW iX, and Genesis GV70 Get 5-Star ANCAP

ANCAP released details of the most recent 5-star safety recipients:

All-New Volkswagen Caddy people mover, BMW iX, and Genesis GV70 were tested against the latest 2020-2022 rating criteria.

The seven seat Volkswagen Caddy people mover cam to Australia and New Zealand in the last 12 months and scored well across all areas. Lane support and autonomous emergency braking did particularly well, but only  Caddy people mover was tested. Caddy Cargo van has not yet been tested.

The Volkswagen Caddy people mover has a centre airbag, and AEB junction assist, both of which are now requirements for 5-star ratings.

The electric BMW iX Medium SUV also scored well in occupant protection and collision avoidance, side impact, the oblique pole test, and in the AEB car-to-car and vulnerable road user scenarios. Ix scored full points in the Child Occupant Protection, in MPDB and side impact tests.

ABOVE: BMW iX and Genesis GV70

iX did not do so well in the frontal offset (MPDB) test, where passengers were not offered the same protection as other vehicles tested..

The BMW iX and Genesis GV70 both have active bonnets, which lift the bonnet clear the engine if a pedestrian is struck. However, neither vehicle offered good pelvis protection to pedestrians.

The Genesis GV70 scored highly in Adult Occupant Protection and Safety Assist. All collisions were avoided or mitigated in the AEB car-to-car and Vulnerable Road User scenarios, including AEB junction assist.

Genesis GV70 has a centre airbag and a fatigue detection system, which monitors steering inputs for patterns which are characteristic of a fatigued or inattentive driver.

GV70’s Lane Support System can reduce head-on and single-vehicle crashes, and decent performance with lane keep assist.
