Chinese car maker, Geely, has a premium electric mobility brand, Zeekr. Zeekr sits beside other Geely nameplates such as Polestar and Volvo, and following the debut at the EV show this past weekend, has officially launched the Zeekr 009 in Australia.
There has been a gap in the market where electric people movers have been all but ignored. The nearest a people mover comes to “ECO” is a hybrid from Toyota/Lexus. Zeekr 009 is filly electric and blends innovation and elegance to the MPV segment. Priced at $135,900 plus on-road costs for the 7-seat AWD (2+2+3 layout) and $139,900 for the 6-seat AWD (2+2+2), this sleek, all-electric vehicle takes MPV to a more comfortable and quieter place.
Zeekr 009 is filled with features to make every journey feel like a mini retreat. Imagine Nappa leather “lounge chairs” inspired by Eames, with leg rests, massage, heating, and ventilation to ease travel fatigue. The cabin comes in a sophisticated Stone Black finish, with customisable, no-cost options like a chic Jade Green tri-tone interior for added personal style.
Underneath the indomitable exterior, the Zeekr 009 delivers a rather surprising performance figure and stunning range. A dual-chamber air suspension with CCD dampers creates a smooth and composed ride, while silicon-carbide-driven motors enable a rapid 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The 116kWh battery pack offers an impressive range of up to 686 km, ideal for longer journeys without the need for frequent recharging stops.
Passengers are used to MPVs with a petrol of diesel engine, even if it is coupled to a hybrid electric motors, so pure EV promises a smoother, vibration-free environment. Not only that, it is cheaper to run.
Technology takes centre stage with a 15.05” central OLED touchscreen paired with a 17.0” OLED rear display and a 30-speaker Yamaha surround sound system, transforming the cabin into a personal cinema. On the safety front, the Zeekr 009 includes a 720° protection system, advanced driver aids via the Zeekr AD suite, and a 10-grid side sill structure, all contributing to a robust and secure environment for passengers.
