PEUGEOT 3008 Hybrid arrived in Australia to breathe bringing a breath of fresh air to the hybrid SUV scene. With its unmistakable French styling, cutting-edge tech, and a nod to greener motoring, it’s clear PEUGEOT wants this to be more than just another crossover—it’s aiming to be a statement.
Stellantis considers Peugeot to be one of its premium brands but is one struggling to rediscover its essence. Peugeot was a great handling French all-rounder, but in going up-market has limited its buyers to those also considering premium German brands. New to the market are the growing Chinese badges that offer vastly superior value for money. The squeeze is on, so how does 3008 Hybrid stack up?
Built on the all-new STLA Medium platform, the 3008 Hybrid showcases PEUGEOT’s latest design. Peugeot persists with i-Cockpit and has been rejigged in this latest iteration, and includes a 21-inch curved floating display with a fully customisable interface. It’s paired with a compact steering wheel and an elegant, driver-focused console that really catches the eye. Either way you look at it, this Peugeot interior is both beautiful and of good quality.

Under the 3008 Hybrid’s bonnet is a 1.2L turbo petrol engine and an electric motor with a very modest 115.6kW output. It pairs to a new 6-speed dual clutch automatic and prioritises efficiency, with the ability to run in full-electric mode for over half of urban drives. PEUGEOT claims a combined fuel consumption of 4.9L/100km, but buyers could get a more power Toyota small SUV for less money. The modest performance figures might not satisfy those seeking thrills, particularly with its braked towing capacity capped at 1,200kg.
3008 Hybrid cabin feels more high-end lounge than family hauler. PEUGEOT has dialled up the luxury, particularly in the GT Premium variant, that has heated rear seats, multi-point massaging front seats, and buttery Nappa leather upholstery. Subtle LED ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof complete the vibe, making the interior a genuinely lovely place to be—even if you’re just stuck in traffic.
3008 Hybrid ticks plenty of the required safety boxes too. Features include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), blind spot detection, and lane departure warnings, with the added reassurance of cyclist and pedestrian detection in low light. The package is standard for the industry and also includes:
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Multi-Collision Braking
- Automatic Post-Collision Braking System
- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
- Emergency Braking Assistance (EBA)
- Electronic Braking Distribution (EBD)
- Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)
- Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
- Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR)
- Long Range Blind Spot Detection (BSD)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW) with unmarked road edge detection
The 3008 Hybrid’s is larger (95mm longer, 54mm wider, and 42mm taller than its predecessor) and translates to a more spacious interior. Boot space is generous, and the hands-free electric tailgate is a handy gadget when your hands are full.
However, the 3008 Hybrid isn’t without its quirks. Its sharp exterior design won’t suit all tastes, and while PEUGEOT’s hybrid system is efficient, it’s not as advanced as some of its rivals. Those craving more power or longer all-electric range may find it lacking.
Still, there’s something undeniably charming about the 3008 Hybrid. With its bold design, luxury interior, and urban-friendly efficiency, it offers a compelling package for those who value style as much as substance.
