Volkswagen USA launched Golf MK 8 GTI and Golf R with the pricing and details that will have Australians gnashing their teeth.

Chiago Motor Show sees VW showcasing: Golf GTI starts at $29,545 and the Golf R at $43,645. As we know, the new model is slightly bigger than the MK 7.5, while keeping the wheelbase the same. The new LED headlights have caused quite the stir, but the star of the shot is the 2.0L engine. GTI gets 241hp/273lb-ft with 6sp manual or 7sp DSG, and Gold F has 315hp/295/lb-ft. Both cars have a top speed of 150mph.

Jeep did a Chiago Motor Show reveal worthy of any super-camper with  Wrangler front and centre. Highlights included the Xtreme Recon Package with 35-inch tires and Sunrider Flip Top for Hardtop.

The pack costs $3,995 and includes:

  • 17-inch by 8-inch beadlock capable wheels
  • Swing gate reinforcement
  • 4.56:1 axle ratio
  • 1.5-inch factory suspension lift with uniquely tuned shocks

The flip tip gives the hardtop more flexibility than the regular lift out sections.
