Genesis has claimed yet another bit of silverware for the mantle, GV60 scooped up the Best Electric SUV award at the 2023 What Car? Awards (UK).
Like all Genesis cars, the GV60 has praised comfortable ride, a decent infotainment system, and good pricing compared to its competitors. The same goes when put up against other contenders.
The awards were held in Grosvenor House in Park Lane, the original of which was once the London home to the Duke of Westminster. The What Car? Awards sees the automotive industry come together to recognise the UK’s motoring royalty.
GV60 grabbed a bunch of gongs in Europe in 2022, with ‘German Car of the Year’ in the premium segment and ‘Swiss Car of the Year’. Who would have thought a humble Korean car maker would get to the top of the tree, beating the long-established snob-knobs.
What Car? Editor Steve Huntingford said: “With its first electric SUV, Genesis has created a truly game-changing car. Standout strengths include the beautifully finished interior, user-friendly infotainment system and supple yet well-controlled ride. Meanwhile, the GV60’s hushed cruising manners, long range and rapid charging capability add further to its appeal. The cherry on the top is that you get all of this for a very competitive price.”

“We’re delighted to collect another award for the Genesis GV60”, said Andrew Pilkington, Managing Director, Genesis Motor UK. “Our first all-electric model is proving a real success with customers and it’s an honour to receive recognition of the GV60’s leading qualities from a prestigious title like What Car? Genesis arrived in Europe less than two years ago and we’ve worked hard to create a solid foundation for the brand. Winning awards against well-established premium brands is truly motivating and we look forward to growing our business further. This is only the beginning for us.”
Genesis is a spin-off brand from Hyundai, and now sits under the Hyundai Group umbrella along with Kia and Hyundai. GV60 is the first all-electric model Genesis on the group’s E-GMP platform, Along with the IONIQ 5, and EV6. Like most EVs in the group, it has fast charging, long range, and a wide availability of servicing, something an EV rarely needs.
Genesis got another nod in the What Car? Awards with a special recognition for its GV70 SUV (this week’s Video Review car, to drop next week), which claimed Best Interior for a Family SUV. The judges praised the luxurious but versatile interior that has a bespoke feel thanks to tailoring of colour schemes and materials.
