Haval H7 Beats Every GWM to 1,500 Expressions of Interest

More than 1,500 people registered interest in Haval H7 just over 3 weeks after its public debut, more than any GWM model launched here before.

First shipments of the Haval H7 are in port now, with first deliveries expected within the next 2 weeks and dealers getting ready to take test-drive bookings. GWM confirmed it’ll start under $50,000 drive-away.

The car went public at Everything Electric in Sydney, as we reported when Haval H7 and Cannon PHEV went public together.

GWM’s, 1,500 expressions of interest in just over 3 weeks from that debut passed, and the Haval H7 page views quadrupled compared with the outgoing model it replaces. The walkaround video passed 90,000 views across GWM’s website and YouTube channel in a single week. We have now passed the stage where buyers consider Chinese brand unworthy of listing on the shopping app.

The car is on display at GWM’s pop-up at Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne, the Southern Hemisphere’s largest shopping centre, where GWM reported people lining up to see it.

Steve Maciver, GWM Head of Marketing & Communications, said, “We have high expectations for the all-new HAVAL H7, and the level of early interest shown from prospective buyers across Australia demonstrates that GWM looks to have the formula just right with this new model.”

He went on, “Continuing to offer Australians exciting new models like the all-new HAVAL H7, with the right technology at the right price, will enable GWM to move closer to its ambition of becoming a top five brand. We’ve come this far through 18 years of listening, learning, innovating and localising, right here in Australia. The all-new HAVAL H7 is the latest example of that.”

A Boxier Partner for Haval H6

Medium SUVs are the biggest new-car segment in the country, and GWM now has 2 entries in it. Haval H7 goes alongside Haval H6 in GWM’s medium SUV line-up, the car we tested in our Haval H6 Ultra 2WD HEV review. Haval H7 has a boxy silhouette and upright proportions. China sells the same car as Haval Raptor, whose European debut was in Baveno, Italy.

GWM’s stated aim is a top-5 place on the sales charts. A former Kia boss warned Chinese brands will take 60% by 2030.

Four Haval H7 Grades and Two Ways to Power Them

Lux and Vanta grades each come as a Hybrid or a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), making 4 in all, and Hi4 all-wheel drive is standard across the lot.

The Hybrid makes 182kW, while the PHEV jumps to 320kW/670Nm and does 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds, with up to 137km WLTC electric range, up to 844km WLTC combined, and 6kW V2L. Meanwhile, most legacy brands are struggling to crack 200kw in their creaking old diesels. With the price of diesel as a result of Trump’s insane middle east war, diesel is both expensive and restricted.

Every Haval H7 gets a rear diff lock, 4×4 Expert Mode, 8 drive modes and a 360-degree camera with transparent view. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto run through GWM Coffee OS on the big centre screen.
