INEOS Grenadier and Scottish Mountain Rescue Cairngorms Training

In the wild, unpredictable landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park, the phrase “capable under pressure” takes on a whole new meaning. At this year’s Scottish Mountain Rescue (SMR) National Training Conference, INEOS Automotive flexed its off-road muscle, partnering with the charity to deliver hands-on 4X4 training to volunteers who are often the difference between life and death in remote terrain.

Glenmore Lodge played host to SMR’s latest conference, where the introduction of a practical 4X4 workshop pushed volunteers and vehicles to their limits. On the rugged tracks of the Alvie Estate, 10 mountain rescue teams got behind the wheel of the INEOS Grenadier Station Wagon and Quartermaster models, navigating real-world rescue scenarios without relying on winches.

Ray Smith, SMR’s 4X4 lead, praised the Grenadier’s performance: “With INEOS Automotive’s support, our volunteers honed essential off-road skills that will make a real difference in the field. The Grenadiers excelled at tackling tough terrain while providing comfort and versatility for transporting casualties and acting as mobile command hubs.”

The Grenadier’s blend of ruggedness and reliability has made it a rising star among emergency services globally. INEOS Automotive CEO Lynn Calder highlighted the vehicle’s growing reputation: “From Scottish mountains to New Zealand’s alpine slopes, Grenadiers are proving their worth in frontline lifesaving work. The partnership with SMR is another testament to their versatility and appeal to rescue organisations worldwide.”

This isn’t INEOS Automotive’s first foray into lifesaving partnerships. Earlier this year, the Grenadier became the official vehicle of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), and fire and rescue services across Europe have integrated it into their fleets. Meanwhile, in New Zealand, Grenadiers support Search and Rescue Dogs Avalanche (SARDA), which deploys canine teams to scour high-altitude slopes.

As Scottish Mountain Rescue continues to face some of the UK’s harshest conditions, INEOS Automotive’s Grenadier has cemented its place as a trusted partner in ensuring both volunteers and casualties make it home safely.
