A couple of video clips to tease its “Kia EV9” can be seen at Kia Worldwide YouTube Channel
As seen in the camouflaged images here (I don’t know who they think they’re fooling), EV9 is the biggest KIA electric SUV, and so far, looks like a really big Seltos crossed with a Sorento SUV.
Having said that, teaser images are notorious for making a vehicle look considerably more interesting than the actual finished product.
But I digress, Kia’s biggest electric SUV uses the same Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) as EV6, Hyundai IONIQ5 and IONIQ6, and the Genesis GV60. The platform has a battery and motor modules that can be bolted on to metalwork of pretty much any size, as seen in some of our Hyundai Group car reviews.
The Kia EV9 teaser video, has the boxy profile of a very large moxy SUV with an angular sweep at the D Pillar. Like its Hyundai siblings, EV9 has a commanding set of lighting patterns using vast LED arrays front and rear.

ABOVE: 2023 KIA EV9
Kia EV9 shows a shift away from flowing lines, to a more geometric look. EV6 on the other hand, is curvy and voluptuous, outdone only by Genesis GV60.
The ICE KIAs didn’t adopt the numbered nomenclatures of their overseas cousins, something that appears to have changed with the electric vehicles. On the bright side, even an idiot can count up to 9, expecting the smaller numbers to represent smaller models.
If the aforementioned Hyundai group vehicles are anything to go by, EV9 will go like the clappers, have single and dual motor models, and a modern-esque cabin as befits an electric car that will still be around at the end of the decade.
There may even be a go-quick version, god forbid, and a battery of around 80kWh. It would be nice to see bi-directional charging and wireless Apple CarPlay, but we won’t. It will have vehicle to load capability, which is a step in the right direction, and will be able to use the very fastest chargers of 350kw.
Kia EV9’s World Premiere is in late March where all will be revealed. Word is yet to reach us on when it will come to Australia, but KIA sees Australia as an important market, so we hope it will lake less time to get here than EV6 did.
