Land Rover Defender Gets More Gongs

The Royal Automobile Club of Western Australia’s added Defender to their Best Cars for 2020 awards. Defender 110 got the ‘All-Terrain SUV ($70,000 – $125,000)’ win, where its all round good-guy status was praised by RAC Vehicle and Fuels Manager, Alex Forrest.

“The completely new Defender is tremendously capable off-road with the major upgrades being refinement, safety and comfort levels that are now fit for the 2020s, not the 1950s,” Mr Forrest said of the latest iteration of the Land Rover stalwart that has been with us since 1948.

New Defender has won more than 30 international awards, and has a full five-star ANCAP rating. This was won with an obsession for l safety and the protection of the Defender’s passengers, and for other road users..

Defender has six airbags and up to three ISOFIX points. The new Land Rover a full list of driver aids and safety tech such as:

  • Emergency Braking,
  • Blind Spot Assist,
  • 3D Surround Camera,
  • Clear Exit Monitor,
  • Adaptive Cruise Control,
  • Driver Condition Monitor
  • Lane Keep Assist

Plus much more.

Among the many wins is the TopGear.com Awards ‘double header’. Defender was named the Car of the Year, as well as winning the ‘Unstoppable Force’ award for being one of the toughest passenger vehicles currently available. It earned praise for not only being the most capable off-roader on the market but also for being a refined, well-equipped, family car.

The short wheelbase Defender 90 range comes to Australia this year, as well as the new 3.0-litre, inline six-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine with enhanced torque delivery and improved fuel economy thanks to its Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology.

The smooth and refined in-line diesel engine is available in three variants – the  D200 with 147kW of power and 500 Newton metres of torque, the D250 (183kW/570Nm) and range-topping D300 delivering an impressive 220kW and 650Nm, enough to propel Defender 90 from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds.
