The 2025 Toyota Yaris and Yaris Cross have been given a thoughtful nip and tuck—nothing drastic, just enough to say, “Yes, I’ve been to the gym, thanks for noticing.”
Toyota’s smallest overachievers now come exclusively in hybrid-only form, meaning every Yaris hatch and Yaris Cross variant gets the same zippy 1.5L petrol-electric powertrain good for a combined 85kW. That’s plenty for the school run, weekend Bunnings trip, or a panic U-turn when you realise you’ve driven to work on a public holiday.
The big news? More safety tech across the board. Even the entry-level Yaris Ascent Sport gets parking support brake, so it’ll slam the brakes if a pedestrian, pole, or rogue wheelie bin leaps out while reversing. All Yaris models now emit a low-speed alert tone—kind of like a polite robot whispering “Excuse me!” as it glides past.

The Yaris Cross follows suit with the GX picking up blind spot monitoring, safe exit assist, and the same helpful acoustic alert. Also new: heated mirrors for the GX, in case you live somewhere where frosty mornings still exist.
Inside, the changes are subtle but useful. All models swap out the old aircon gas for something more environmentally friendly—R1234yf (no, that’s not a robot from Star Wars), and the Yaris SX gets larger 16-inch alloys, just to feel a little more grown up.
Under the bonnet, the front-wheel-drive Yaris Cross uses the same hybrid giddy-up as the hatch. The AWD version gets an extra motor on the rear axle for added grip when the going gets slippery—or you’ve parked on a steep driveway during a thunderstorm.
