As the old Leaf is no longer on Nissan’s forecourt, we look to Japan where Nissan has pulled back the covers on the all-new, third-generation LEAF—now sleeker, smarter, and sassier than ever. Drawing from 15 years of real-world EV experience and nearly 700,000 sales globally, this LEAF isn’t just a makeover—it’s a transformation. Nissan is clearly eyeing both new EV buyers and those still clinging to their petrol-powered past.

Built on the CMF-EV platform, the LEAF now rocks a fastback silhouette with flush handles, aero-tuned wheels, and drag coefficients as low as 0.25Cd in Europe. The bold new “ni-san” motif—two vertical rectangles and three horizontal ones—embeds Nissan’s name in minimalist geometry across the exterior and interior, signalling a new design language rooted in Japanese futurism.

Inside, the LEAF is all luxury-lounge. Think flat floors, floating horizontal dashboard, and massive dual 12.3- or 14.3-inch displays. A high-end Bose® Personal® Plus audio system, with headrest speakers, delivers serious surround sound realness. The available Dimming Panoramic Roof uses smart PDLC tech to control sunlight with a tap. Yes, she’s that extra.

Performance-wise, the LEAF’s upgraded 3-in-1 powertrain is now 10% more compact with 75% less motor vibration. Two battery options—52kWh and 75kWh—offer up to 303 miles (488 km) of range in the U.S. Versions with the larger battery get 160 kW and 355 Nm of torque. Charging is quick too: 10-80% in as little as 35 minutes on fast chargers.

EV functionality is smarter than ever with an Intelligent Route Planner, real-time state of charge monitoring, and access to Tesla Superchargers thanks to the NACS connector. Also on board? Regenerative braking tech that adapts based on route conditions and city traffic.

And it’s not just about getting from A to B. Select U.S. trims feature cabin and cargo 120V power outlets (up to 1500W), plus optional V2L adapter support. Japanese models continue offering V2H (Vehicle-to-Home) energy supply capability, while European variants are ready for V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) use, making the LEAF an energy ecosystem on wheels.

Advanced driver-assist features like 3D Around View Monitor, Invisible Hood View, and Front Wide View round out the tech suite. This car wants to park itself, protect its passengers, and light your tent while you glamp in Byron Bay.

Production will roll out at Nissan’s Tochigi Plant in Japan and the Sunderland facility in the UK. Pricing and detailed specs will be revealed closer to launch in each market, with the U.S. rollout expected this autumn.

The 2025 Nissan LEAF is more than just an EV. It’s a statement. She’s back, and she’s fabulous.
